The Boston Bruins looked to the services of backup goaltender Anton Khudobin for this afternoon’s matchup against the Vancouver Canucks and helped his BB’s team to a 4-3 regulation win at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Today’s victory over the Canucks was the second straight since the firing of former Head Coach Claude Julien as the team is taking positive steps forward under the tutelage off intern bench boss Bruce Cassidy.

After a terrible start to the 2016-17 season going 1-5-1,  a 3.06 Goals-Against-Average and .885 Save Percentage, the 30-year-old netminder was sent to the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins to seemingly find his game. After a 7-3-1 record, a 2.69 GAA and .896% with the top minor-pro affiliate of the NHL Bruins, the organization found it fit to recall him to the big club for an opportunity to redeem himself while giving starting goaltender Tuukka Rask rest coming down to the final games of the season.

In today’ss win, Khudobin stopped 29 of 32 shots on goal for his second win of the season but more importantly the organization’s second win from members who’ve occupied the backup position this year. This was certainly a confidence boost for the veteran journeyman and with the team making progression moving forward while winning these two last games it remains to be seen how much trust new coach Cassidy will install in the backup netminder. If the Bruins are going to make a serious push to get back into the playoffs that the organization has missed the last two seasons, it’s vital that Anton works hard to be the unsung hero when called upon.

After tomorrow night’s game against the Montreal Canadians, the B’s set to take a six-day break as they take their turn in the league’s bye week. Although the bye week is aa time of rest with family activities, this time will not be used for organizational practices or team workouts. This is one factor that has many worried about how this team will react as they’re set to head west to play the San Jose Sharks, Anaheim Ducks, Loss Angeles Kings, and Dallas Stars at the conclusion of the resting period which starts next week.

About Mark Allred Jr

Long-time Boston Bruins fan and former beer league goaltender for over 30-years on the ice, Inline, and Dek-Hockey throughout New England. Retired and needed a hobby so writing about the B's talent in the lower levels of developmental hockey is my favorite topic and main focus. It's important to know about tomorrow's stars today in my opinion.
